Redmi Note 5 Leaked Renders Show the Xiaomi Handset With 5.99-Inch 18:9 Display, Thin Bezels

Redmi Note 5 is expected to come in three colour options: black, grey, and navy blue

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 was recently leaked via China's 3C certification website with two variants expected to launch soon. Another leak has now outed alleged renders of the Redmi Note 5 smartphone, which reveal an 18:9 aspect ratio with thinner bezels than before. The new Xiaomi leak also shows a dual camera setup on the back, with a fingerprint sensor below it. Three colours of the Redmi Note 5 are shown in the photos, grey, black and navy blue.
A report by TargetYouTube claims that the the Redmi Note 4 successor is expected to launch in March/ April 2018 at a starting price of CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 15,200). A recent MyDrivers report had claimed a base price of CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 16,300) for the Redmi Note 5. Of course, Xiaomi has not made an official announcement around this smartphone yet.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will allegedly sport a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) IPS LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. According to the report, the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, coupled with 3/ 4GB of RAM and 32/ 64GB of inbuilt storage options. The phone is expected to run MIUI 9 based on top of Android 8.0 Oreo.
In the camera department, the Redmi Note 5 renders suggest a dual camera setup on the back. The phone will reportedly bear a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front, there is expected to be an 8-megapixel sensor with 1080p video recording. Apart from that, a 4100mAh battery, with fast charging support, is rumoured to be present under the hood of the Redmi Note 5.
Despite the high quality renders and extensive list of specifications, this leak is supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt. We will possibly have clarity from Xiaomi in the coming days.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 spotted on JD.com, launch imminent?

It seems the much-awaited Redmi Note 5 smartphone is close to making an official debut. The phone was recently spotted in a placeholder listing on Chinese retailer JD.com. Being a placeholder, the listing did not actually reveal any specifics about the phone, but the unintentional appearance of it suggests that the actual launch is close and JD.com was just getting ready. The listing has since been taken down. It is important to note here that JD.com is the second biggest e-commerce website in China and not like Oppomart and others, who frequently publish listings of unannounced smartphones. Simply put, it is a credible source. As per the previous leaks from Chinese regulator TENAA, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will be launched in two RAM variants – 3GB with 32GB and 4GB with 64GB. The phone will reportedly sport a 5.9-inch full HD IPS screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by 2GHz octa-core processor of unknown make. Among other specifications, the Note 5 will include Android 7.1.1-based MIUI 9 operating system, 4000 mAh battery, 12MP rear camera and 5MP selfie camera. The usual connectivity options including dual-SIM support and 4G will also be present in the phone. Furthermore, the smartphone will allegedly be offered in nine colours – Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, Silver. To remind you, Xiaomi Redmi Note5’s predecessor Redmi Note 4 was unveiled back in August, 2016 in China with a MediaTek processor. Xiaomi then introduced a Snapdragon-powered variant in January, 2017. So, it is high time for the company to announce a successor with design and features more in line with current smartphone trends. The alleged presence of 18:9 screen on Note 5 does suggest that Mi is going in that direction. I am hoping to see an official announcement in the coming weeks. Xiaomi unveils Redmi 5 & Redmi 5 Plus with large 18:9 displays Posted: 06 Dec 2017 11:55 PM PST As expected, the Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Thursday introduced the new Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones at a press event in its home country. The new phones are entry-level models, which will succeed the company’s Redmi 4. Keeping in mind the current trend of putting an 18:9 aspect ratio screen in every phone, Xiaomi has added the same aspect ratio display panels in both smartphones. The Redmi 5 has got a 5.7-inch 1440x720p screen and Redmi 5 Plus packs a 5.99-inch 2160x1080p screen. Among other specifications, the phones run on Android 7.1.2-based MIUI 9 operating system. These also include fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE connectivity and IR blaster. On the imaging front, both Redmi 5 and 5 Plus come with a 12MP rear shooter with dual-tone LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera with soft-LED flash. In terms of the processor, the Redmi 5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, while the Plus model packs Snapdragon 625. Xiaomi had a wonderful time this year, especially in India. They became the 1st smartphone manufacturer to match the market share of Samsung in India. Even they became more popular than before internationally, thanks to their Mi Mix 2 and Mi A1.

The year did not end for Xiaomi yet, as they are gearing up to launch 2 new smartphones in their home country China. Those new devices are none other than Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus which were leaked a while ago.

The official Xiaomi account on Weibo posted the above image with some information regarding the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus launch. According to the post, the new devices will be unveiled on December 7 by the popular Chinese pop band SNH48. The highlight if these two smartphones will be their 18:9 displays. And above all, they will be priced below CNY1,000 as the post says “A phone for a thousand”.

Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus Leaked Specifications

As for the processor is concerned, both the devices will powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon according to leaks. Also, there will be two variants of the each phone, one with 3GB RAM/32GB ROM and another with 4GB RAM/64GB ROM. For optics, both will have the same 12MP primary camera and 5MP secondary camera.

The difference between the two will be the screen size, display resolution and battery. The regular Redmi 5 will sport a 5.7 inch HD+ display, whereas the Plus variant will come with a 5.99 inch FHD+ display. The plus variant will be backed by a 4,000 mAh battery but the regular one will come with a smaller 3,300 mAh battery.

However, we will come to know everything about the devices on December 7 when they go official.

Is Xiaomi Redmi 5A Truly 'Desh Ka Smartphone'?

Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus will be launched on December 7 in China. The Chinese electronics firm made the announcement on Weibo, and the post refers to a 'full screen' display, something corroborated by the accompanying image. Xiaomi is evidently planning on launching the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus with 18:9 aspect ratio displays. Alongside, two variants of a new Xiaomi smartphone with an 18:9 display have also shown on up on the site of Chinese telecommunications certification authority TENAA, and it appears to be the Redmi 5.

As we mentioned, the Weibo post by Xiaomi doesn't reveal much about the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus, except their taller than usual 18:9 displays, and the launch date. However, the TENAA listings of the MDE1 and MDT1 shows a very similar smartphone, complete with a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) 18:9 display. Presumably, with the increased height and removal of the hardware capacitive buttons, Xiaomi has managed fit a larger 5.7-inch display into a smaller frame closer to the original Xiaomi Redmi 4. The TENAA listing, first spotted by Fonearena, shows the smartphone to be significantly larger than the 5-inch display bearing Redmi 4 in terms of dimensions, despite seeming the forego the hardware capacitive buttons in front. Slashleaks also corroborates the Redmi 5 listing, with its own matching leaked renders and specifications. It adds a CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs. 13, 600) price, and claims the first sale will be on December 10.

TENAA lists the MDE1 and MDT1, thought to be the Redmi 5, to sport a 1.8GHz octa-core SoC, which is speculated to either be the Snapdragon 450 or Snapdragon 625 - this latter seems less likely, as the Redmi 4 sported a Snapdragon 435 SoC and the company can be expected to follow through with another Snapdragon 400-Series processor.

The purported Redmi 5 listing on TENAA mentions three RAM options - 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB - as well as three storage options - 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB - which can be expected to correspond in individual SKUs. Storage is said to be expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). The smartphone is listed with a 3200mAh battery - significantly smaller than the Redmi 4's 4100mAh offering. It is said to sport 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Dimensions are listed as 151.8x72.8x7.7mm, and a weight of 157 grams. The smartphone is listed to run Android 7.1.2, tipping an MIUI 9 build out-of-the-box. The fingerprint scanner can be seen on the rear panel.

Redmi 4 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, however, that may not be the case with the Redmi 5. The leak suggests that the Redmi 5 will come with a much better processor -- Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset is expected. Redmi 5 is also tipped to come in only one variant -- with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There are no words on if the storage can be expanded with a microSD card or not. On the software front, the Redmi 5, for now, is tipped to come with Android 7.1 Nougat. But chances are also likely for the phone to run on the latest software -- Oreo.

Redmi 5 may come with an improved hardware, software, and design. But, surprisingly, the camera department may not see much difference compared to the Redmi 4. The leak suggests that the Redmi 5 will come with a 12-megapixel sensor at the back, while on the front the phone will come with a 5-megapixel camera setup. The battery setup may also drop a bit than the Redmi 4. The Redmi 5 is expected to be backed by a 3,300 mAh battery.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 -- much like the Redmi 4 is expected to be a budget phone. Assumptions are such that the phone may cost around CNY 1,399 - which translates roughly around Rs 13,000.

The Redmi 5 Plus on the other hand, based on previous leaks, can be expected to sport a Snapdragon 625 or Snapdragon 630 SoC, different RAM and storage variants, and a larger 4000mAh battery. We don't have long to wait however before the December 7 launch, when Xiaomi can be expected to reveal everything about the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus.

Xiaomi has been widely expected to working on the successor of its popular Redmi Note 4, believed to be launched as Redmi Note 5. Now, a Chinese e-commerce retailer Oppomart has listed the Redmi Note 5 with specifications tipping an imminent launch. Xiaomi's Manu Kumar Jain, VP and Managing Director Xiaomi India has tweeted out teasing the launch of a new product.

According to the listed specifications, the alleged Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will run on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 OS out-of-the-box. It will sport a 5.99-inch display with 1080x2160 pixels resolution, and as rumoured for weeks, will feature 18:9 aspect ratio. The Oppomart listing teases the Redmi Note 5 being powered by dated Snapdragon 625 processor which seems an old chipset considering Snapdragon 630 is now out. The handset is said to come in 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. On the camera front, there's a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The dual-SIM Redmi Note 5 is said pack 4000mAh battery.

The Oppomart listing seems to have been pulled now but this definitely points to possible launch in coming weeks. The Oppomart listing was first spotted by The Leaker. The new listing comes days after a placeholder was spotted on JD.com.

Xiaomi has announced reduction on price of its popular Redmi Note 4, and this may be one sign that hints at its successor's launch. The Redmi Note 4 has been one of the top selling smartphones for Xiaomi this year.

Additionally, Jain shared a teaser on Twitter hinting at launch of a new product, teasing the letter 'i'. At this point, it isn't clear whether the new device is a smartphone but we can expect to get more clarity in the coming weeks. The teaser by Jain also confirms a fact that it will be focused on the Indian market.

Most of the Android OEMs are now bringing the 18:9 bezel less display to their phones.This is a feature which is now a mainstream in smartphone design. Almost every Chinese smartphone makers have already launched at least one budget 18:9 display phone, except for Xiaomi. But, now a new leaked render of Redmi 5 Plus confirms that Xiaomi will be joining this bandwagon soon.

The above render of Redmi 5 Plus was posted on Weibo by some random tipster. This upcoming phone from Xiaomi looks similar to the popular Redmi Note 4. But, it has dual camera setup which are aligned vertically with an LED flash and fingerprint sensor below them. According to rumours, the Redmi 5 Plus might be powered by either Snapdragon 625 or Snapdragon 630. It will be coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Probably, it will run on MIUI 9 which was globally launched recentlyand the same is already rolling out to some devices.

Xiaomi is now gaining more popularity than ever. Thanks to their innovative Mi Mix which was however not the first bezel less display smartphone but laid a strong foundation for this trend. And they are now also the No. 2 smartphone brand in India in terms of sales. The company is also slowly entering into many new markets with the help of their Android One smartphone – Mi A1 . Only time will tell how more successful they can be.
