Airtel, Jio Plans With Unlimited Calling, 4G Data At Rs. 300-Rs. 500

Amid high competition in the telecom industry, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have rolled out many prepaid offers for their customers. Airtel has also released many special tariff recharges, such as one priced at Rs. 349 which offers unlimited calling (local and STD) along with 2GB of high speed data on 4G-enabled handsets for a validity period of 28 days, according to the telecom company's website - airtel.in. The offer also comes with 1GB of 'happy hours' night data for 4G phones and 45 MB for other phones.

Here are some of Airtel's popular recharge packs priced between Rs. 300 and Rs. 500:

Airtel Rs. 349 Offer

Under a special recharge pack priced at Rs. 349, Airtel offer allows its prepaid subscribers unlimited local/STD calls along with 2GB of 3G/4G data for a validity period of 28 days, according to the telecom company's website.

Airtel Rs. 448 Offer

In a special recharge pack priced at Rs. 448, Airtel offers 1 GB data per day at 4G speed for a validity period of 70 days, among other benefits. Airtel's Rs. 448 recharge pack includes unlimited local/STD voice calls along with roaming outgoing calls for the validity period. This plan is largely viewed as targeted to counter Jio's Rs. 399 plan, which also offers unlimited local and STD calls along with 1GB data per day for a validity period of 84 days.

Here are some of Jio's popular recharge packs priced between Rs. 300 and Rs. 500:

Reliance Jio Rs. 309 recharge plan
This recharge pack by Jio comes with 1 GB of data per day for a validity of 49 days. After usage of 1 GB data per day, the speed is reduced to 64 Kbps, according to the Jio website. The maximum data that can be availed in this plan is 49 GB. Voice calls - including local, STD and roaming calls - and SMS are unlimited.

Reliance Jio Rs. 399 plan
Jio's Rs. 399 recharge pack comes with a validity of 70 days. Among other benefits, Jio offers 70 GBs of high speed data with a daily limit of 1GB under the Rs. 399 plan, according to its website - jio.com. The data speed is reduced to 64 Kbps after a customer exhausts the daily limit, according to the Jio website. Local, STD and roaming calls are free and unlimited across all operators, it noted.

Reliance Jio Rs. 459 plan
Under Jio's Rs. 459 recharge, prepaid customers of the telecom company get high speed data of 84 GBs over a validity period of 84 days, with a daily usage limit of 1 GB. The data speed is reduced to 64 Kbps after the usage of daily limit, according to the Jio website. Local, STD and roaming calls are free and unlimited across all operators, it added.

Reliance Jio Rs. 499 plan
Under its Rs. 499 plan, Jio offers 1 GB data per day subject to a maximum limit of 91 GBs data for 91 days. After a customer exhausts the maximum data allowed daily under the pack, the internet speed is reduced to 64 Kbps, according to the Jio website. Local, STD and roaming calls are free and unlimited across all operators in Jio's Rs. 499 pack as well, it noted.

Amid high competition in the telecom industry, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have rolled out many prepaid offers for their customers.

Airtel adds Karbonn A1 Indian & A41 power to ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative

Airtel is swiftly expanding the portfolio of smartphones under its ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative, which offers cashbacks to the buyers of select 4G smartphones if they regularly recharge their prepaid accounts. The latest phones to be added to the telecom operator’s 4G initiative are Karbonn A1 Indian and Karbonn A41 Power. Neither of the two phones is new. The A1 Indian has been on sale in the country since September this year and A41 Power has been retailing since August.
According to Airtel, the buyers of these two phones will need to make 36 continuous monthly recharges of the INR 169 pack from Airtel. They will get a cash refund of INR 500 after 18 months and another INR 1000 after 36 months, taking the total cash benefit to INR 1500. If they don’t want to get the INR 169 pack, the customers can go for any other recharge, given recharges worth INR 3000 are done within the first 18 months to get the first cashback and another INR 3000 over the next 18 months for the second cashback.
The Karbonn A1 Indian is being sold for INR 3299 and the A41 Power for INR 3349. Both phones will be available on Amazon India as well as in the open market.
A1 Indian and A41 Power phones aren’t the first 4G Karbonn smartphones to be offered as a part of Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative. Last month, Airtel and Karbonn had launched the A40 Indian as the first phone in the ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ lineup.

According to Airtel, A40 Indian was a big success and it was fully sold-out in the first month of launch.
“We are delighted to partner with Airtel. The immense response that we got for us our offer with Airtel helped us add 70% new feature phone users to our existing portfolio. We feel that this partnership will be even more fruitful as it brings more competitively priced 4G smartphones to the market, especially with Amazon India on board,” said Pardeep Jain, MD, Karbonn Mobiles, in a statement.

Airtel adds Intex 4G phones to its ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative

Further expanding its Mera Pehla Smartphone initiative portfolio, Indian telecom operator Airtel has partnered with Intex to offer three of the company’s 4G Android phones with cashback offers.
“We are really pleased to see the continued positive response to our ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative from customers as well as smartphone manufacturers. We are delighted to have Intex on board as a partner and their brand familiarity plus distribution reach will add to our affordable smartphone proposition and offer more choice to our customers,” said Ajai Puri, Chief Operating Officer (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel, in a statement.
The three Intex phones, which will be eligible for Mera Pehla Smartphone offer, are Aqua Lions N1, Aqua A4 and Aqua S3. According to Airtel, the buyers of these 4G phones will be able to claim cashback of INR 15000 if they go for the INR 169/ month prepaid plan for 36 months or do recharges worth INR 3000 within the first 18 months of purchase (to claim the first cashback of INR 500) and another INR 3000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second cashback of INR 1000).

Micromax Bharat 5 Launch, Airtel's New Recharge Packs, Nokia 2 and Nokia 6

Micromax today expanded its Bharat line of affordable smartphones with the new Micromax Bharat 5, which is priced at Rs. 5,555. The main feature of this model is its 5000mAh battery. It is designed to appeal to users in smaller towns and cities where power supply is erratic. It has a 5.2-inch 720x1280 screen, unspecified quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both the front and rear cameras on the Micromax Bharat 5 have 5-megapixel sensors. Micromax has partnered with Vodafoneto offer 10GB of data free each month for five months, to new and existing Vodafone subscribers, as long as they have at least a 1GB pack. The Micromax Bharat 5 will only be sold offline, and it could prove to be popular with its intended target audience.

Nokia 2 goes on sale in the US, Nokia 6 gets a software update
The Nokia 2 is the most affordable Nokia-branded smartphone from HMD Global, and it has just gone on sale in the USA through three major retail chains - Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H. All three list only the black option without any carrier subsidies or restrictions, priced at $99 (approximately 6,390, compared to the official price of Rs. 6,999 in India). The Nokia 2 has a 5-inch 720x1280 screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and 4100mAh battery.

Nokia has also just released an OTA software update for the mid-range Nokia 6 which claims to improve performance and stability, and introduces some UI tweaks. While it isn't the expected Android Oreo update, it does include Android's November security patches.

Airtel's new data packs
The mobile tariff wars continue, and Airtel has rolled out its latest attack, a new Rs. 199 recharge pack for prepaid users which gives them unlimited local and national calls and texts, unlimited incoming calls while roaming, and 1GB of 3G/4G data per day through the 28-day validity period. As of now, only subscribers in Chennai, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Karnataka can buy this pack. The move comes shortly after Vodafone launched a similar pack priced at Rs. 199. There are also reports of a Rs. 157 pack that gives users 3GB of data for 27 days, though this is yet to appear on Airtel's website.

Jio's Mukesh Ambani on the competition and more
Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani addressed a leadership summit in New Delhi, and talked about mobile broadband penetration in India and around the world. He stated that India is now ranked No. 1 for mobile broadband, as opposed to its rank of 150 last year, and that Indians now consume more data than people in the USA and China, and credited both these changes to the launch of Reliance Jio. However, he denied that Jio had anything to do with the losses reported by competitiors, specifically Bharti Airtel, terming the situation part of the normal risks of doing business. Even if there have been corporate losses, he said, the more important thing to consider is how much consumers have gained. He also asserted that mobile data access will allow India to triple its GDP over the next ten years. According to Ambani, "The foundation of this revolution is connectivity, computing, data and artificial intelligence."

Top movies, music, apps revealed by Google
Google has published its annual lists of the most popular books, games, movies, TV shows and songs of 2017. In India, top trending app and most popular app was Photo Editor - Beauty Camera & Photo Filters, and Messenger Lite. Baahubali: The Game was the most popular game on Google Play, while Saahore Baahubali, by M.M. Keeravaani was the most streamed song. Karan Johar's An Unsuitable Boy was the most popular book and Dear Zindagi took the top spot for movies. Globally, Super Mario Run topped the games list, Humble by Kendrick Lamar was the most streamed song, Moana was the top movie, Game of Thrones was the top TV show, and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson was the most popular book.

Twitter Lite launched
Twitter has rolled out its Twitter Lite app, which promises reduced data consumption, in 24 new markets where it sees the cost of mobile data as an inhibitor to growth. It also works offline and will load quickly on low-powered Android phones. The app was earlier trialled in the Philippines, and unfortunately India is not on the list of 24 new countries in which Twitter Lite is now available. According to the company, Twitter Lite users in are more engaged than before.

Avengers: Infinity War India release date
India is one of a small number of countries in which Marvel will screen its next Avengers movie one week before the mainstream global release. The highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War will be shown in India on April 27, but it won't be the first in the world, as a few countries will have screenings on April 25 and April 26. The massive superhero movie will only be released in the USA only on May 4. The strategy is aimed at boosting revenue in global markets, which now accounts for just over two-thirds of Marvel's total earnings for its massive tentpole films.

Alexa moves into the enterprise
Amazon has announced that its Alexa voice assistant can now handle a wide range of routine office tasks, positioning the Echo smart speaker range as well as a huge number of third-party Alexa-enabled devices as office assistants. Alexa will be able to help users join conference calls, coordinate meetings, make calendar appointments, and even order products from Amazon. Echo or other devices will be anchored to a business account rather than each individual's own account, and can be shared by multiple co-workers. Employees can also link their home devices to a business Alexa service.

Apple working on own power management chips?
Apple appears to be continuing to consolidate the manufacturing of microprocessors for its various devices, bringing design and development operations in-house. A recent report suggests that the company is working on a new line of power management chips to be used in future iPhones, rather than the ones currently sourced from Dialog Semiconductor. Apple is said to be hoping to better integrate its hardware and software, potentially improving battery life as well.

Microsoft Edge for iOS, Android out of beta
Microsoft has publicly released its Edge browser for Android and iOS devices, following a brief beta test period. Users who choose to download it will be able to synchronise browsing sessions as well as bookmarks, passwords and settings across their smartphones and Windows PCs. It is available in a limited number of languages for now, but the company has plans to expand globally. You can download Microsoft Edge now from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store for Android.
