How to connect OnePlus 5/5T with TV

OnePlus 5 was launched in 2017 and later in the year end was joined by 5T with some awesome features. But both have a small catch that they are just 5.5-inch which is a good size indeed but how about 40, 55, 65, 85 inches display? Here we are talking about your TVs, no matter whether they are smart or not. Today, we will let you know how to connect your OnePlus 5/5T with TV.
Oneplus 5
The device has a display of 1080p which we would say is fine but then again not very impressive. So if you are the one who loves to watch videos, play games etc on phone and want to play on the big screen. Screens like your TV, monitor or projector, then here’s a guide to connect your OnePlus 5/5T with TV.
W know most of the users know that it can be done, but how?, is the question. I faced the same dilemma. But don’t worry we are here to help you. Here, we will share with you three simple ways in which you can connect your OnePlus 5 to big screen i.e TV. Whether you have a wired or wireless TV  we are here for you.

Ways to connect OnePlus 5/5T with TV:

1. Android Miracast

android miracast with android tv
One of the best way to mirror your OnePlus 5 device to your television screen. So be it your TV, projector or monitor you can use Miracast to connect it. Though the option of connecting Miracast is available in most of the latest TV’s, but if you don’t have the option then we have an answer to that too.
2. Fire TV stick or Amazon’s Fire TV
Now let us tell you how to cast your device.
  1. You need to simply pull down the notification panel.
  2. Then in the quick setting shade press the cast option.
  3. You need to turn on the wireless display option by clicking the three dots.
  4. Under the list of the devices you will get the option of your TV which you need to select.
  5. And then you can simply mirror your screen.
  6. There can also be a chance under the results option your dongle or TV does not appear.
  7. Then you need to enable the mirroring mode on your TV or dongle.
Once done you will be able to enjoy over the big screen.

3. Option of HDMI, MHC or USB-C

We know this one is a much easy option. But the bad luck is that you guys can’t use it as this option isn’t supported on OnePlus 5. So you need to buy a wireless device through which you can cast your device. Not to worry guys if we get a solution we will be the first to update you. But for now you need a wireless device.

4. Chromecast

new chromecast
The best part about using Chromecast is that it is a Google branded device and is available and used across the world. The device is pretty stable too and it makes using Chromecast as the best option. There are other features too, supporting the views above. One such is that you once connected to Chromecast you can use your OnePlus 5 like a remote.
So if you want to watch a video on Youtube or a movie or show over Netflix then you just need to select the one on your device. Chromecast will directly play the video or movie on your TV through the internet. This feature cuts the role played by the phone as a middlemen.
You just need to simply download the Google Home app and set up the chromecast. And it’s done, so whenever you on the video you get the cast option just need to click it to mirror it.
Overall, I would suggest Chromecast is a good option and easy to use too. Though users can even prefer Miracast depending on the availability and choice.

OnePlus 5

Changelog

  • GPS improvements
  • Fixed issue of not able to set customized alarm ringtone
  • Fixed issue of sharing emoji from Bitmoji
  • Updated Android security patch to October
  • General bug fixes
As you can see, the update is sort of a much needed maintanence release and focused on fixes. Since, the issues such as unability to set alarm ringtones and problem while sharing of emojis are being patched. Apart from that, GPS is also getting improved once the update is installed.
Well, it won’t be wrong if we say that OnePlus 5 users might be expecting more than this incremental update. As its predecessors OnePlus3/3T had already embraced with the brand new Android Oreo. Hence, the users ought to be miserable as there device is still lying on Nougat 7.1.1. Seems, they’ve to wait a little more for the OxygenOS 5.

OnePlus 5T to retain it’s 3.5 mm audio jack

The recent trend being seen in the smartphone market, is the disappearance of 3.5 mm jack. Well, I know it’s a shock, it was for me too. But most of the smartphone companies are doing so ‘save space’. This is the reason being given. It is a risk taking step as we all love connecting our headphones and listening music. Few prefer the wired one compared to wireless ones.
oneplus 5t leak
So, whenever a new device is about to launch the first question is 3.5 mm jack. But there is a good news from OnePlus fans. Recently, there have been many leaks by the company and the recent one is a interesting picture posted on Twitter. The picture is about the phones specifically pointing to the 3.5 mm jack. Though this isn’t a direct leak regarding OnePlus 5T. But it can be an indication that like other companies, it is in no mood to remove the 3.5 mm jack from it’s further devices.
And well, the next launch if going to be OnePlus 5T. So here we can take a conclusion that OnePlus 5T will have an audio jack.
We aren’t sure, it can be a false assumption too. But the best thing is stay connected to us for some further updates or rumors about OnePlus 5T.

OnePlus 5T can’t stream Netflix, Amazon Prime Video in HD

OnePlus 5T renderThe OnePlus 5T smartphone can not stream content from the popular video streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies and more in high definition (HD). Even though it packs the flagship-level hardware including Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 2160x1080p screen, the phone is only able to stream in standard definition (SD).
The issue, which was first revealed on the company forum and spotted by The Verge, is apparently also present in the OnePlus 5 phone, which is nearing its end of life. It is unimaginable for a flagship phone to lack such a feature, which is taken for granted.

Why can’t OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T stream in HD?

In order to safeguard the copyrighted works, the content creators like movie studios use digital rights management (DRM) technologies. It is present everywhere these days and in order to play the DRM-protected content, the device makers need to include the necessary support in their devices. Now, OnePlus 5T does include limited DRM security support using Google’s Widevine DRM architecture, but it lacks the support for Level 1 DRM, which is needed for HD or better resolution streaming. It only comes with Widevine Level 3 DRM, which allows for just SD streaming.OnePlus 5T DRM support

Will the OnePlus 5T ever get HD streaming support?

In a statement to The Verge. OnePlus has said that it is working on a software update, which is enable Widevine Level 1 DRM, in turn allowing HD or better resolution streaming. However, the company has not revealed why it was missing in the first place or why it is not present on the OnePlus 5. There is no word on when this software update will be available. It is important to note here that the phone will be able play or stream non-DRM content in HD or full HD.
Despite being a comparably large-screen phone with a 6.01-inch screen, OnePlus 5T’s display is still way smaller than laptops, tablets or TVs, where the lower-resolution is easily visible, which would explain why we haven’t see a lot hue and cry.
I am hoping that OnePlus will fix the problem sooner rather than later. The company might be selling millions of the phones, but issues like these and EngineerMode debacle show why OnePlus still needs time to grow-up and mature.
