Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is official: 25% faster CPU, 30% faster GPU Posted: 06 Dec 2017 09:38 PM PST Qualcomm is hosting its Snapdragon Technology Summit this week, where the chip maker unveiled its flagship mobile platform for 2018 – the Snapdragon 845. It is now in sampling with the company’s customers including the smartphone makers and will be arriving in the actual devices in early-2018. Xiaomi has already confirmed that it is using the 845 in its next flagship. According to Qualcomm, the CPU and GPU in the Snapdragon 845 have been reworked from ground-up and offer significant performance improvements over the Snapdragon 835. “As leaders in mobile technology, we will transform the mobile experience with comprehensive advancements in visual processing, AI, security and connectivity. The Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform is the next horizon of innovation and is going to transform the way people use their mobile devices to make their lives better,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager, mobile, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, in a statement. Here are the highlights of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Based on 2nd-gen 10nm process Includes eight Kryo 385 CPU cores (four high-power and four low-power) and Adreno 630 GPU Each CPU core has a private L2 cache and there is an added L3 cache with 2AIMB memory The high-power cores can be clocked upto 2.8GHz and the low-power can be clocked upto 1.8GHz The high-power cores will provide 25-30% better performance than the cores on Snapdragon 835, the low-power cores will offer 15% better performance. Adreno 630 will offer 30% faster graphics performance Overall Snapdragon 845 is 30% more power-efficient than Snapdragon 835 Apart from the CPU cores and GPU, there is Spectra 280 image signal processor (ISP), Hexagon 685 DSP, X20 LTE modem and a secure processing unit. Xiaomi Mi7 will be the first Android Phone to be powered with Snapdragon 845. Qualcomm announced its latest Snapdragon 845 Soc yesterday at its annual tech summit in Hawaii. Qualcomm says it will be featured in the premium phones in 2018.



Snapdragon 845 is based on same 10nm FinFet process similar to its predecessor Snapdragon 835. The chip also includes advanced X20 LTE modem with which mouth-watering 1.2Gbps download speed is achieved. It will be developed in partnership with Samsung Foundry.

“As the foundry partner for the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, we look forward to our continued collaboration,” said Dr. ES Jung, president and general manager – foundry business, Samsung Electronics, in a press statement.

There are lots of rumors about Samsung Galaxy S9 launching in CES 2018 along with LG G7. So after Xiaomi Mi 7 both Galaxy S9 and LG G7 will be powered by Snapdragon 845 Soc.
Coming to Xiaomi Mi 7 , according to all the leaks its features a 6.1-inch OLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It powers with snapdragon 845 Soc and pairs with 6GB/8GB RAM. It is packed with dual 16MP cameras with f/1.7 aperture. The phone will runs MIUI 9 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. Moreover, Xiaomi is reportedly working on 3D facial-recognition for unlocking the Mi7

Xiaomi’s next flagship phone will be powered by Snapdragon 845

At its big Snapdragon tech summit in Hawaii (United States) yesterday, Qualcomm unveiled the new Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. This flagship mobile processor platform from the company will be arriving in the devices next year and while the company will detail Snapdragon 845 later today, I do have news about at least one device that will be using it.
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun, who is present at the Snapdragon tech summit, revealed that the company’s next flagship phone will be using the upcoming Snapdragon 845 processor. He didn’t state the name of the device, but it is most likely going to be Mi 7.
“I am very excited to be part of the Snapdragon Technology Summit and reaffirm that Xiaomi’s close relationship with Qualcomm Technologies in the premium tier will continue into 2018,” said Lei Jun, founder, chairman and chief executive officer, Xiaomi.
“Xiaomi is committed to making devices that combine cutting-edge innovations in technology and beautiful design, while defying price expectations, and we have chosen Snapdragon 845 to power our next flagship smartphone,” Jun added.
The specifics of the Mi 7 are a mystery at this point, but a recent rumour indicated that the phone will go in production in February 2018. It is expected to be the first phone from Xiaomi to feature wireless charging support. The company had joined the Wireless Power Consortium earlier this year. Being a flagship, you can expect the Mi 7 to pack an impressive set of specifications like 6 or 8GB of RAM, 64 or 128GB of internal storage and full or quad-HD display with slim bezels.
