Instagram launches Direct, a standalone messaging app

Instagram launches Direct, a standalone messaging app Posted: 07 Dec 2017 09:05 AM PST Instagram releases Direct, a standalone messaging app. Direct is a new Instagram companion app to send and receive messages. Installing Direct app will remove the message section from the Instagram app. The app will be available in handful of countries starting today on both Android and iOS. The app consists of three screens. Opening the app, you will see camera similar to Snapchat. Swiping right will display your profile which also includes settings, option to switch accounts and options to access different functions of Instagram. And swiping left will reveal your recent chats (Direct Inbox) similar to what you see now in your Instagram app. You can also open Instagram app directly from the Direct app. All you have to do is swipe left once you are in the Direct inbox to reveal Instagram icon which will direct you to the Instagram app. In the same way, you can open or access Direct app from the main Instagram app. This is the same move which Instagram’s parent company Facebook did with its app couple of years back. To recall, Facebook forced users to install Messenger app to chat with friends. Thus, Facebook now has three individual messaging apps – WhatsApp, Messenger and Direct. The Direct app will be available in Israel, Italy, Chile, Portugal, Turkey, and Uruguay starting today both on Android and iOS. The app will make its way to other markets once it gets out of the testing phase. The post Instagram launches Direct, a standalone messaging app .

Instagram brings Story Archive and Story Highlights in Latest update

Instagram brings Story Archive and Story Highlights in Latest update

Posted: 05 Dec 2017 11:28 AM PST

Today, Instagram announced two new features and trust me they will make your experience even more better. The features tend to change the popular stories and make it more interesting.

Instagram the social networking photo sharing app has been added with the new feature named ‘ Story Archive’. With the name archive we can understand that it will be related to saving your present stories. So now the 24 hr expiration feature has been changed. So from today you can save your stories for a period more than 24 hours. And the best part is that only you who can see your ‘Story Archive’. If you want you can also turn off the feature.
The next feature added by Facebook owned Instagram is ‘Story Highlights‘. Under this feature your archived stories will highlight over your profile. So like if you have some recent pictures of a event you attended, you would save them to your profile under ‘The wedding event’. So whenever anyone visits your profile he/she will be able to see the story under that name.
Both the new features are all set to enrich the story content. This will make your profile even more better and clutter free. This update rolls out today for both Android and IOS devices. If you have comments regarding the new update do share them below in comments section.

Instagram is the most widely used social platform for sharing pictures and videos. But, it lacks one major functionality which almost all other social platforms offer – ‘sharing other’s posts’. To do so, one has to use third party applications which also involves tedious actions.

But, now according to the findings by The Next Web, the official regram (repost or share) button along with some other functionalities will head to Instagram soon.
Here, are some of the upcoming new features:

Regram

Finally, the official regram option will be coming to Instagram. Thus, you do not need to rely on third party applications anymore.

GIF for Stories

Yes, you heard it right. GIF is coming to Instagram too. Users will be able to add GIFs to their stories like stories. Also, they can search for GIFs as per their need.

Archive Stories

Instagram already has archive section for posts, but now it seems new section for Stories might be coming too. Thus, users will be able to recall their memories by seeing their old stories. Normally, stories disappear after 24 hours.

Close Friends

Using this feature, users can send posts to their closest friends like Direct Messages. But, however when you add someone as close friend, they won’t be notified.
So, that’s it guys. For which feature are you more excited for? Let us know in the comment section below.
