Google Play Services v12.12.09 brings fixes on Pixel 2 devices

The Check for update button on the Google’s lineup of devices stopped working late last year. And the culprit for it was Google’s own Play Services app. But, now the issue seems to be solved at least for some Pixel 2 users when they updated the Google Play Services to the latest beta which is v12.12.09 .

If you own any of the Google’s Pixel or Nexus devices in which the Check for update button doesn’t work, then you should try this workaround. All you have to do is enrol for beta programme for Google Play Services on the Play Store and update the app when it will be available for you in few minutes. The latest beta update will bump up the app version to 12.12.09.

Now, if you have updated the Google Play services, head over to settings and tap on the Check for update button. if you are one of those who haven’t received the February security update notification yet, then tapping on that button will pull up the update for you like it should. But, however this seems to be still working only on Pixel 2 devices and not other Google devices according to many users on Reddit.

Google’s AR stickers now available on Pixel phones

Google has finally released the augmented reality (AR) stickers for its Pixel devices. It has been over two months since the company showed them off at the Pixel 2 launch event, but better late than never. These stickers use the ARCore augmented reality platform, which was announced by Google a few months ago. To use the AR stickers, you need to update both ARCore and AR Stickers apps on your phone. I have linked both of them if you want to directly head over their listings and trigger the update. At this time, the AR Stickers only work with the Pixel smartphones with Android 8.1 on-board. So if you are still waiting for the OTA or simply hadn’t had the time to apply it, you will get a ‘not compatible’ message. So, what are these AR stickers? AR Stickers are animated and interactive stickers that you can use with your phone’s camera app to be part of your photos or videos. After you have updated AR Core and AR Stickers apps on your phone, you will get a new mode in the camera app called AR Stickers. Just tap on this mode and you will able to drag and drop the stickers in your frame. The app offers all the necessary instructions on how to use them. Google is currently providing a number of stickers to choose from, including characters from Star Wars and Stranger Things. The company has promised to release more sticker packs in the future. There is no word right now whether the AR Stickers will be expanded to other Android smartphones. If anything changes, I will update the report to include the necessary details. December Security Patch with KRACK fix for Nexus and Pixel Devices

Google’s December security patch is now available with the KRACK fix for its Nexus and Pixel Devices. KRACK exploit affects millions of Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Its the welcome sign for the users, although KRACK fix should be included in the november security patch.

With this KRACK Exploit, your sensitive data like credit card numbers, passwords, chat messages, emails, photos and just about anything that’s stored on the device are vulnerable. However, many Android phone manufacturers already gives the fix for this bug to there phones.
The December security patch is available for Qualcomm, Nvidia, and MediaTek products. But we did not know that the recently popped up several Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL issues are fixed in this update or not. But Google says there will be two patch levels for this month: 12-1 and 12-5, the latter of which will be the level for all Nexus and Pixel builds.
The update will be rolling out in 48 Hours. We will update you once the OTA arrives.

E-retail giant Flipkart has revealed that it will be offering great deals on some very popular Android smartphones during its upcoming Big Shopping Days sale. The company is running the sale from December 7 to December 9.
As a part of the retailer’s Mobile Big Shopping Days deals, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones will start from INR 49,999 (just INR 39,999 after a credit card EMI offer). The Pixel 2 will get a flat discount of INR 11,001 as well as several other offers to further reduce the price. The Pixel 2 XL is also going to get a flat discount, but Flipkart hasn’t the confirmed the deal amount at this point. To remind you, normally the Pixel 2 starts from INR 61,000 and the Pixel 2 XL from INR 73,000.
For Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, which were introduced just last month in the country, these are some amazing discounts. If the huge launch prices deterred you from buying these phones, the Flipkart sale is going to be a great opportunity to snag them at a discount.
Xiaomi’s Android One phone Mi A1 will also be getting INR 2,000 flat discount during the Flipkart sale, taking the price of the phone from INR 14,999 to just INR 12,999. Mi A1 is the best smartphone in its price-segment and with this discount, it become a no-brainer for anyone looking for a great sub-INR 15K smartphone.
Flipkart will have deals on several other Android smartphones as well, like the Redmi Note 4, but it has not revealed those deals at this point and we will likely hear about them on the first sale day itself.

Pixel 2 Random reboot fix is on the way says Google

Adding to Google’s woes, another bug in the long list of the Pixel 2 issues has been nagging users for a while. This bug, reported by 100s of users is responsible for random reboots on both the Pixel 2 phones. However, the reboots are connected to LTE, some users have reported.

One particular user reported that the issue is specific to low LTE signals. So, if you can just switch off the LTE where signal is poor will make you immune to reboots. Not a very ideal fix, we can say. But Google has acknowledged the issue on its forums and a fix is on its way. Although Google has not revealed what triggers the reboots, the announcement gives respite to frustrated users.
