Instant Games video and live streaming features

The first new feature is live streaming which will be live starting today. Users can now easily live stream their Instant Games gameplay via Facebook live. To start a live stream, users have to tap the camera icon located at the top right corner of the game.
Tapping that icon will prompt the user to add a description to their broadcast. After adding the description, users can start live streaming by selecting ‘Start Live Video’ button. Once, the user stops live streaming, the video will be posted on their profile.

The second new feature is video chatting which will be made available early next year. The first game to utilize it will be Words with Friend. Facebook says that over 245 million people video chat every month on Messenger. Hence, they are bringing Instant Games to video chat to kill time with friends.
Last but not least, Facebook is bringing a bunch of new games to the Messenger. These games will be available in coming weeks. The new games list includes Angry Birds, Sonic Jump and Disney Tsum Tsum to name a few.

Facebook adds support for live streaming and video chats to Instant Games on Messenger

Facebook introduced Instant Games on Messenger and News Feed a year ago. Initially, the social media giant rolled out this new feature with only 20 games in 30 countries. And now after a year, they provide more than 70 games and more than 100 developers are working on it across the world. Thus, to celebrate the success and first anniversary of Instant Games, Facebook introduced live streaming, Video chat as well as some new games.

Facebook Messenger gets Discover tab in India



Will help users find chatbots and nearly businesses

Facebook wants Indian users to find and interact with bots in its Messenger app. So, the social networking giant has rolled-out its Discover feature in the Messenger app. Available now on Android, the Discover tab allows the users to find top and relevant bots as well as local businesses to interact with. 
“We are excited to announce that starting today we will gradually be rolling out the Discover tab in India, a new feature in Messenger that makes it easy and simple for people to find and browse bots and business pages,” Facebook said in a statement.
Discover was originally unveiled by Facebook at this year’s F8 developer conference, but the ability to browse and find bots and businesses was added in June. The feature was limited to US initially, but it seems Facebook is expanding it to more markets. I tried looking for information on which markets Discover is available at this point, but couldn’t find anything.  All support pages just mention about the availability in the US.

How does the Discover work? 

At the lower right-hand corner of the Messenger app, there is a small icon, which takes you to the Discover tab. Here, you can find the recently used bots, featured bots/ businesses, and popular bots/ businesses. You will also be able to browse by category or search by name. If you find a bot or businesses you want to talk to, just tap on their name and you are good to go. In some cases you might have to allow Facebook to share your public information with a bot in order to use it effectively. The Discover tab also mentions the amount of time that bot will take to reply to you.
For a few months earlier this year, there was a period when every big tech company seemed to believe that chatbots are the next big thing. But that excitement has subsided now. It seems with this expansion of Discover outside US,  Facebook is making a last attempt to get people to start using bots.

Instagram releases Direct, a standalone messaging app. Direct is a new Instagram companion app to send and receive messages. Installing Direct app will remove the message section from the Instagram app. The app will be available in handful of countries starting today on both Android and iOS.

The app consists of three screens. Opening the app, you will see camera similar to Snapchat. Swiping right will display your profile which also includes settings, option to switch accounts and options to access different functions of Instagram. And swiping left will reveal your recent chats (Direct Inbox) similar to what you see now in your Instagram app.
You can also open Instagram app directly from the Direct app. All you have to do is swipe left once you are in the Direct inbox to reveal Instagram icon which will direct you to the Instagram app. In the same way, you can open or access Direct app from the main Instagram app.
This is the same move which Instagram’s parent company Facebook did with its app couple of years back. To recall, Facebook forced users to install Messenger app to chat with friends. Thus, Facebook now has three individual messaging apps – WhatsApp, Messenger and Direct.
The Direct app will be available in Israel, Italy, Chile, Portugal, Turkey, and Uruguay starting today both on Android and iOS. The app will make its way to other markets once it gets out of the testing phase.
