Huawei introduces Enjoy 7s in China with a 5.65-inch screen

Huawei Enjoy 7sJust days after getting leaked in full, Huawei’s Enjoy 7s smartphone has become official. The Chinese smartphone maker on Monday announced the phone in China. It is a mid-range smartphone and sports a 5.65-inch full HD+ screen with 18:9 aspect ratio.
The smartphone is powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core processor. Enjoy 7s also packs 3000 mAh battery, a fingerprint sensor and the usual set of connectivity options including dual-SIM support and 4G LTE.
For the photography needs, Huawei has added dual rear cameras in the phone with 13MP and 2MP sensors. The front houses an 8MP selfie camera. In terms of the software, the smartphone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with EM UI 8.0.
According to Huawei, it will be offering the Enjoy 7s in two versions – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and the other with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Both variants include a microSD card slot for further expansion of the storage.

Pricing and availability

Huawei Enjoy 7s is currently on pre-order in China and will be available beginning December 22. The 3GB RAM version of the phone carries a price-tag of 1,499 yuan ($226) and the 4GB version will retail at 1,699 yuan ($256).
The international availability information remains a mystery at this point, but in the past, Huawei has typically released the Enjoy-series phones with different branding in Europe and Asia. I am hoping to hear about the global release in the coming months.

Qualcomm is hosting its Snapdragon Technology Summit this week, where the chip maker unveiled its flagship mobile platform for 2018 – the Snapdragon 845. It is now in sampling with the company’s customers including the smartphone makers and will be arriving in the actual devices in early-2018. Xiaomi has already confirmed that it is using the 845 in its next flagship.
According to Qualcomm, the CPU and GPU in the Snapdragon 845 have been reworked from ground-up and offer significant performance improvements over the Snapdragon 835.
“As leaders in mobile technology, we will transform the mobile experience with comprehensive advancements in visual processing, AI, security and connectivity. The Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform is the next horizon of innovation and is going to transform the way people use their mobile devices to make their lives better,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager, mobile, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, in a statement.

Here are the highlights of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

  • Based on 2nd-gen 10nm process
  • Includes eight Kryo 385 CPU cores (four high-power and four low-power) and Adreno 630 GPU
  • Each CPU core has a private L2 cache and there is an added L3 cache with 2AIMB memory
  • The high-power cores can be clocked upto 2.8GHz and the low-power can be clocked upto 1.8GHz
  • The high-power cores will provide 25-30% better performance than the cores on Snapdragon 835, the low-power cores will offer 15% better performance.
  • Adreno 630 will offer 30% faster graphics performance
  • Overall Snapdragon 845 is 30% more power-efficient than Snapdragon 835
  • Apart from the CPU cores and GPU, there is Spectra 280 image signal processor (ISP), Hexagon 685 DSP, X20 LTE modem and a secure processing unit.
  • The Spectra 280 makes sure the Snapdragon 845 can capture and play 4K HDR video at 60fps, support HDR 10, slow motion video capture 720p@480fps, upto 32MP cameras, and a lot more
  • Quickcharge 4/ 4+ support, which claims to offer 5 hours of battery life from 5 minutes of charging
  • Bluetooth 5 support
  • 3x improvement in overall AI performance

Since there is pretty much no other premium smartphone chipmaker (except probably Samsung, whose chips are mostly used in its own devices), you can expect to see the Snapdragon 845 is the flagship and premium devices from all Android partners like LG, Sony, Asus, Xiaomi, Google, HTC, ZTE, and Samsung.

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei on Thursday took the wraps off the new Nova 2s smartphone at a press event. It is a mid-range smartphone and will go on sale next week in China.
According to Huawei, the Nova 2s sports a 6-inch IPS screen with full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by the company’s own Kirin 960 octa-core processor. On the software front, it runs on Android 8.0 with EMUI 8.0.
In terms of the photo capabilities, Huawei has included dual-camera setup on both front and back of the phone. The rear houses 20MP and 16MP sensors with f1.8 lens and the front packs 20MP and 2MP sensors with f2.0 lens. There is also an LED flash on both sides of the device.
Among other specifications, the Nova 2s comes with 3340 mAh battery, fingerprint sensor, a microSD card slot , dual-SIM card slots and USB Type-C port. The phone will be offered in three variants – the first with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the second with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and the third limited edition with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
There are going to be five colour options – Silver, Gold, Green, Black, and Rose Gold.

Pricing and availability

According to Huawei, the Nova 2s pre-orders are now open in China and the shipping will start December 13. The 4GB+64GB model has been priced at 2699 yuan, 6GB+64GB model at 2999 yuan and the 6GB+128GB model at 3399 yuan. The 128GB model will not be offered initially and go on sale on a later date.
